While most of you can type Japanese on your keyboard just fine, I thought I'd show you what a keyboard in Japan looks like. It's very much the same as a standard "qwerty" keyboard with some changes to the non-alphabet keys. No real "opinion" given in this episode - just a little slice of daily life - but that's how this series will go. Of course, getting used to using a Japanese OS and having Windows and Excel, etc all in Japanese has been much tougher than adapting to the keyboard. Yes I noticed a little error on the long sentence but that's because i dragged my finger a bit past the letter "F" to the letter "D" so it's ok. Swype is the best keyboard for android and any phone that doesn't have a physical keyboard, I grew on a lot on phones without physical keyboards because they tend to break easier or mess up. So even with a phone with a nice keyboard such as my girls mytouch 3g slide, her phone comes pre-loaded with swype already. So it's really nice. Launcher pro can be found on the market for free, and the clock and widget video will be next, so be patient, it's 3:30am and I have to be up at 5:45am for work. Turn all the switches off except for the very top switch 8. Exit the application 9. Download the keyboard theme: usershare.net 10. Unzip/un-archive the file 11. So you've made it to Korea. You're here, enjoying the sights and sounds of the country you'll be living and working in, and have even taken the next step and taken up learning Korean. But you keep running into problems when trying to type on your western-style keyboard. If you have a Mac, you actually have a few options that will make it easier for you to type in Korean (not only for vocabulary practice, but when searching). To activate the Korean language inputs on your computer, head up to the menu bar on your Mac. You'll see the current language set. If you don't have anything, but English selected (or your native language), hit the Open International option to bring up the menu. This brings up a preference menu that allows you to toggle which languages you'd like to be able to type in on the computer. As you can see, there are several options for different kinds of input for Korean. I recommend selecting two: 2-Set Korean and HNC Romanja. Simply close this window and go back the menu bar, and you'll find your two new additions. The 2-Set Korean transforms your keyboard into the standard Korean input (that you see on every computer in Korea). This is great for learning touch-typing, but for Western computers with Latin characters, it doesn't do us any good, since we don't have the characters on our keyboard. Thankfully, there's a virtual keyboard available. Just click on the Show Keyboard Viewer and it will pop up on your screen. However, since this can be quite slow ...

After making this tutorial I use these shortcuts on a daily basis. These are especially helpful because some of these are hard to find while navigating. It is good to memorize some of these shortcuts because they really can save time. I cant count how many times I use the Start-Shift-Arrow. When using multiple monitors it really is a major difference. It is definitely worth your time, to memorize these and use them on a daily basis.
